Creating Pathways to Employment

Canada’s future relies on its young people, but the country is facing a youth unemployment crisis that requires investment in skills and career development. The King’s Trust Canada (TKTC) – founded by His Majesty the King Charles III, with the support of the late Hon. Hilary M. Weston – creates pathways to employment for young people facing barriers by providing free skills training, work experience, and networking opportunities. TKTC works with leading Canadian employers, community partners, and educational institutions to advance its mission of helping 100,000 young people increase their employability over the next decade. Through this work, TKTC plays an integral role in strengthening Canada’s workforce, promoting equity, and fostering sustainable economic growth.

The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation’s support has been instrumental in the development and launch of 360, a new core TKTC program. In March 2025, the program's pilot launched with 12 young people pursuing a 2-year journey to meaningful employment, pursuing entry-level roles at leading Canadian employers and building relationships with mentors. “The King’s Trust 360 program opened the door for me to gain experience at a prestigious organization that I may not have accessed through traditional employment routes,” said Victoria, a 360 program participant. “The career coaching has been highly beneficial for me. It feels like having steady guidance throughout a big opportunity. I have been able to process feedback, gain validation when needed, be reminded of my strengths, see my weaknesses, and receive clear direction on navigating challenges. I’m learning so much and can imagine the career heights I’ll attain all because I had this foundation. I am truly grateful for the experience and the incredibly supportive TKTC team!”

As part of this pilot, the Foundation’s support helped develop the Skills Academy framework of foundational competencies in demand by today’s employers. This framework now underlies all of TKTC’s program delivery and will provide at least 4,250 young people facing barriers to employment with skills training over the next two years.
Following this pilot, the HGWF’s support will help TKTC adapt and expand the 360 program, supporting more equity deserving youth in the years ahead. As they embark on the 360 journey, they will have the opportunity to reach their full potential for themselves, their families, and Canada.
